Well, people were waiting for it, Steve Rubel was writing about it, now we got it. PR Web has officially announced the new trackback functionality for the press releases published on its site. We’ve yet to see all the good points and weaknesses of this new technology, but it is certainly an innovation worth mentioning – and it is discussed a lot in the online community.
Now, people publishing a press release are enabled with a tool to watch all the mentions of their press release everywhere around the web, and people writing about stuff covered in somebody’s press release can get proper credit for their writing (without “nofollow†slapped on the link, mind you). On the other hand, the fieald for abuse is almost limitless, and let’s wait and see how – and if – PR web handles it.
